Air Fryer Salmon Fillet Ingredients
- Salmon– I like using center cut Atlantic skinless salmon fillets. You can use salmon with skin on or skinless. Cut salmon into even size and thickness so they cook evenly. Pat dry very well before cooking.
- Seasoning: onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, cumin, salt, pepper. These are just the basics so you can use whatever spices you like. You can also rub the salmon fillet pieces with some honey Dijon mustard to serve as a binder for the spices.
- Olive Oil Spray-a great way to add a crispy coat on the outside.
How to Cook Salmon in the Air Fryer
- Coat the salmon – In a bowl mix all the spices and coat the salmon.
- Air fry – Transfer the salmon to the air fryer and spray with some olive oil then cook for 7-8 mins.
- Garnish, serve with your favorite side and enjoy!
Tips to make the Best Air Fryer Salmon
- Preheat the air fryer before adding the salmon in. This helps the salmon cook faster and get a nice golden crisp on the outside.
- Cook time can vary based on the thickness of the salmon. You can use a fork to see if it flakes off easily to check if the salmon is cooked on the inside. An instant thermometer can also be used to check the internal temperature of the salmon to make sure it’s at 145°F.
- Cut the salmon into even sized portions, with same thickness, so everything cooks out evenly.
- Make sure the fillets don’t overlap in the air fryer to prevent any moisture build up. The air needs to circulate between the salmon to give them a nice crispy exterior.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and lemon always to add color and flavor.

Frequently asked Questions
No, you do not have to flip the salmon. Just place the salmon fillets in the air fryer basket and cook for the amount of time stated.
To know when the salmon is cooked, the fish will change from translucent – red – to opaque pink, as it cooks. You can check for doneness after 7 to 8 minutes of cooking, by peeking into the thickest part with a sharp knife or fork. The salmon should flake, but still has a little translucency in the center when it’s done. The internal temp should be 145 degrees F.
The easiest and safest way to thaw a salmon would be overnight in your fridge. But you can also thaw sealed salmon in a bowl of cold water for 45 minutes to 1 hr.
It will all depend on the size and thickness of the salmon. Typically 8-10 minutes for normal sized portion. But always check the inside of the salmon to make sure it’s completely cooked before eating it.
This air fryer salmon keeps well in an airtight container for up to 3 days. You could also freeze the cooked salmon for up to 3 months, just make sure to thaw in the fridge overnight and then warm until heated through.
