Why You’ll Love Air Fryer Garlic Wings

  • It’s so easy. If you love eating chicken wings at your favorite bar and grill, you will love this easy recipe at home. They might even be better than restaurant wings!
  • It’s perfect for sharing. You can easily cook 12 wings in a 6-quart air fryer. If you need more, make a batch to munch on while a second batch cooks. It’s the perfect party food.
  • It’s so flavorful. The garlic sauce for chicken wings is simply made using salty butter and fresh garlic, but it is so tasty!

Garlic Butter Chicken Wings Ingredients

Bowls of ingredients needed to make garlic wings and garlic sauce for chicken wings.
  • Chicken Wings: I prefer chicken drummettes or drumwings, but this recipe will work with wingettes or a combination of wingettes and drumettes.
  • Olive Oil: Or use your favorite light, neutral-flavored oil. The oil will help the seasoning blend adhere to the chicken and give the garlic chicken a golden color when air fried.
  • Seasonings: A combination of dried parsley, garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground black pepper and salt, to taste, are used to season the wings.
  • Butter: Butter is the star of these wings, so use a good quality salted butter for the best flavor.
  • Garlic Cloves: Freshly grated garlic cloves are a must. Use a Microplane for a perfect grate.
  • Fresh Parsley: A garnish of chopped parsley makes these wings pop with color.

How To Make Air Fryer Garlic Chicken Wings

  • Prepare the garlic chicken wings. In a medium bowl add the chicken wings and pat dry them with a paper towel. In a small bowl, combine the spices; parsley, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper and salt. Set aside. Add olive oil and massage the chicken wings. Sprinkle the spice mix over the chicken until evenly coated.

  • Air fry the garlic wings. Arrange the chicken wings in the air fryer basket coated with cooking spray. Air fry the chicken on a preheated air fryer for 18-20 minutes by flipping them halfway through until the chicken is cooked perfectly.

  • Prepare the garlic sauce for chicken wings. Meanwhile, prepare the garlic butter by combining the melted butter, grated garlic and parsley in a small bowl.

  • Coat and serve. Once the chicken wings are out, coat the wings with garlic butter evenly and serve.

Tips To Make The Best Garlic Chicken Wings

  • Preheat the air fryer for 3-4 minutes.
  • Pat the wings dry before coating in oil and seasoning.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with oil before adding the wings. It will make cleanup a breeze.
  • Don’t crowd the basket. Leave space between the wings and cook in batches if necessary.
  • Stand the drumettes up along the edge of the basket, and this will allow you to fit a few extra wings into the fryer basket.
  • Check for doneness with a meat thermometer. Always cook chicken to a minimum temperature of 165 degrees F.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do you cook chicken wings in an air fryer?

These garlic butter chicken wings will cook through and become golden and crispy in about 18-20 minutes. The time could vary slightly depending on the size of your wings and your air fryer. Leave space between the wings and flip them halfway through cooking.

Do you need oil for wings in the air fryer?

The air fryer circulates hot air, which means your wings will get crispy and golden even without oil. Oil can help the seasoning adhere to the chicken and increase the crispiness; however, feel free to omit the oil if you prefer.

How do you keep wings crispy after sauce?

Toss with the garlic sauce for chicken wings just before serving, and the wings will stay crispy and delicious. As the wings cool or when they are reheated, they will lose their crispiness. We recommend making only what you can consume or that you reserve sauce for tossing with leftover garlic chicken wings.

How do I store and reheat Air Fryer Garlic Chicken Wings?

Leftover wings can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days. The chicken can be reheated in the air fryer for 4-5 minutes or until heated through. When coated with sauce, the wings will not be as crispy as when you first served them. Store leftover wings and sauce separately and combine after reheating for the most crispiness.

Can I freeze garlic butter chicken wings?

Fully cooked chicken wings can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. Defrost overnight in the fridge and reheat in the air fryer. We recommend storing the wings without the garlic butter sauce and coating them with a fresh batch after reheating.

What to serve with Garlic Wings?

Garlic chicken wings are a great appetizer but it’s easy to make them a full meal when you add a few sides like Crispy Air Fryer French Fries, Spicy Baked Zucchini Fries, Creamy Spinach Mac and Cheese or Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes.
