Why You’ll Love This Cauliflower Pizza Recipe
- It’s easy! When making homemade pizza, pizza dough can take hours to make from scratch as there’s proofing time. Cauliflower crust takes a couple of minutes to put together.
- It’s healthy! Cauliflower pizza is definitely healthier than your regular pizza as it’s made out of cauliflower. However, this pizza doesn’t take like you’re eating a crust made of veggies.
- It only takes a handful of ingredients. You need less than 10 ingredients to make the cauliflower pizza crust and toppings. You can also change things up by adding whatever toppings you prefer.
What You’ll Need
- Cauliflower: you can cut your head of cauliflower into florets or buy a bag of pre-cut cauliflower instead. Check out my post on How To Cut Cauliflower if you need some tips on cutting florets.
- Egg: the egg acts as a binding agent to hold the crust together so don’t skip this!
- Cheese: I use both parmesan cheese as well as mozzarella cheese. I use both the cheese in the crust and the topping.
- Seasoning: I use ground pepper, salt, and Italian seasoning.
- Sauce: you can use marinara sauce or pizza sauce. It’s up to you depending on which you prefer or have in your pantry.
- Basil: I love garnishing with basil.
How To Make Cauliflower Crust
- Prepare the equipment: Preheat the oven to 425F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper, set aside.
- Prepare the cauliflower: Place the cauliflower florets in a food processor and process until finely ground. Transfer them to a microwave safe bowl.
- Cook the cauliflower: Microwave the processed cauliflower for 3 minutes. Allow them to cool a bit and transfer them to a kitchen towel to squeeze the water.
- Make the cauliflower pizza crust: Now combine the cooked cauliflower, eggs, parmesan cheese, ½ cup mozzarella cheese, pepper, salt, and Italian seasoning. Mix everything until well combined. Place the mixture on the prepared baking sheet. Shape the cauliflower mixture to a circular shape pressing them evenly.
- Bake the crust: Bake the cauliflower crust for 15-17 minutes until it looks golden.
How to Make Cauliflower Pizza
- Add the toppings: Spread the pizza sauce over the crust and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the sauce and bake again for 5-7 minutes until the cheese is melted. Once it’s slightly cool down, cut the pizza to equal slices and serve.
Tips and Notes
- Be sure to squeeze as much water out of your cauliflower as possible. Squeeze the cauliflower two to three times if needed. The less water in your cauliflower, the more crispy the crust will be. If you don’t squeeze out enough water, the crust might turn out soggy.
- Make sure the oven is fully preheated before adding the crust inside. You want the crust to crisp up and the high heat will help. Putting it into an oven that isn’t ready will leave the crust underbaked.
- Be sure to pat the crust down thinly and evenly. This will make sure the crust is evenly baked and is crispy.
- Try not to add too many toppings to this cauliflower pizza crust. The crust won’t be able to hold up a heaping amount of toppings as it is thin.
FAQs
Yes, you can use store-bought instead. One head of cauliflower averages around 20 ounces so be sure to use approximately the same amount in pre-made cauliflower rice.
If you have leftover cauliflower pizza, you can store it like you do regular pizza! Wrap it in plastic wrap and store it in an airtight container. When ready to heat, you can reheat it in the oven to keep it crispy.
You can definitely freeze this! If you want to have extra, I recommend doubling the crust ingredients and then baking two crusts instead of one. Skip topping one of them and then let it cool. Once cooled, you can wrap it up in plastic wrap then tinfoil before freezing. When ready to use, there’s no need to thaw the crust before baking.
A few of my favorite toppings that can be added to the pizza are sliced red onions, bell peppers, pepperoni, olives, broccoli, and more! Just be sure to not accidentally overload the pizza.
If you don’t have a food processor to make the cauliflower rice, you can grate the cauliflower head with a box grater or you can finely dice it up with a knife. Just be sure they are small pieces.
