This Balsamic Tomato Mozzarella Salad is my kids favorite salad! It can be done with just a few ingredients and it’s filling and appetizing. Ready to enjoy in less than 10 minutes, it’s a great summer side dish and great for a healthy snack. The balsamic dressing is wonderfully sweet and tangy and perfect to take to potlucks or picnics.

My kids always ask me to make this salad for them. Zane loves cherry tomatoes and he can eat a whole bowl of it without even complaining. They also love balsamic vinegar because it’s a bit sweeter than other dressings. Such an easy way to get some goodness into everyone’s diets!

This is a great snack, but you can also serve it as a side with your favorite mains like Bruschetta Stuffed Chicken and Simple Skillet Ribeye Steak.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  1. Use ripe cherry tomatoes. The riper they are the sweeter the flavor. I also like to use rainbow tomatoes for a variety of color.
  2. Use fresh basil for a real burst of flavor. If you don’t like basil, you can use another herb like parsley to add freshness.
  3. You can shake the dressing ingredients all together in a mason jar. You can then pour it striaght from the jar or store it in the fridge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make it ahead of time?

You can always cut up the veggies and have everything ready in your fridge in an air tight container and store your dressing aside in a dressing bottle. Just place as much of the ingredients you need in a small bowl and drizzle some of the dressing on it. The chopped salad will keep for about 3 days and the dressing for up to a week.

What does balsamic taste like?

I use the concentrated balsamic vinegar because it has a sweet and bold flavor to it. We love pomegranate molasses and this is very similar to that. It is less harsh than white vinegar and it works so well with the tomatoes and creamy mozzarella.

Is this a Caprese salad?

Yes! This is my version of a caprese salad! This Italian salad is so simple and a classic for a reason! I you love the flavors, you will also love my Caprese Pasta Salad and Caprese Portobello Mushroom. So simple, so easy and so delicious!
