Panko fish and chips are delicious and good for you. White fish, like cod, is full of healthy oils, and since panko breaded fish is cooked in the air fryer, it has less of the unhealthy fats found in deep fried fish. Air fryer fish sticks are super crunchy, lower in calories and pair beautifully with french fries for a meal everyone will love.

Air Fryer Fish Sticks Ingredients

Ingredients needed for fish and chips.
  • Fish: Cut a cod fillet into strips. You can use any mild, white fish. 
  • Flour Mixture: Dredge the fish in all-purpose flour seasoned with paprika, garlic powder, salt and black pepper. 
  • Egg: A room temperature egg will beat more smoothly, making it easier to coat the fish.
  • Panko Breadcrumbs: Panko breadcrumbs create a crunchy crust on the fish. 
  • Parsley: Garnish with fresh chopped parsley. 
  • Lemon Wedges: to serve with the fish. 

How To Make Air Fryer Fish and Chips

  • Prepare the equipment. Preheat the Air Fryer to 380 degrees F.
  • Prepare the fish. Cut the fish into strips, pat dry with a kitchen towel and set it aside.
  • Prepare the breading station. In the first bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.  Whisk the egg in the second bowl, and place the panko breadcrumbs in the third bowl. Set it aside.

  • Dredge the fish.  Coat the strips in the flour mixture, the egg mixture, and the panko mixture. Gently press the breadcrumbs into the fish until evenly coated. Repeat the same with the remaining fish strips.

  • Air fry the fish. Spray each side of the fish strips with cooking spray and place the fish in a single layer on an air fryer basket. Air fry them for 10 – 12 minutes, flip them halfway through, and cook until the fish turns golden and crispy.
  • Garnish and serve. Once done, transfer the fish to a serving platter, garnish with parsley, and serve it with french fries and your favorite dip on the sides.

Tips To Make Fish and Chips in the Air Fryer

  • Cut the fish into strips of similar size for even cooking. 
  • Pat dry with paper towels before dredging in flour. 
  • Preheat the air fryer.
  • Shake off any excess breading. 
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer. Cook in batches if necessary. 
  • Flip the fish halfway through the cooking time. 
  • Check for doneness and add additional time if needed. 
  • Cooking times are an estimate and can vary depending on the thickness of the fish and your air fryer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this with frozen fish?

You can purchase frozen fish, but it should be thawed completely before making this recipe. Thaw overnight in the fridge or soak a sealed package of fish in cold water for about 20 minutes. 

How do I store and reheat Air Fried fish and Chips?

Store leftover air fryer fish sticks in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 or 4 days. Reheat in a preheated air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes until crispy and warm. 

Can I freeze air fryer fish sticks?

Yes. You can freeze the breaded fish by placing it on a baking sheet in the freezer to flash freeze, then transfer it to freezer bags. You can also freeze leftover fish for up to 3 months. Place the frozen fish fillets in the air fryer and heat for 6 minutes. Flip and heat for an additional 2 minutes until the fish is heated through. 

What to serve with Fish and Chips?

Ingredients 

  • 1 lb cod fillet, cut into strips
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 whole egg
  • ¾ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Chopped parsley, to garnish
  • Lemon wedges, to serve

Instructions 

  • Preheat the Air Fryer to 380 degrees F.
