These Agave Cilantro Shrimp Skewers are basically the best shrimp kabob recipe to hit your grill. They are soaked in a delicious agave cilantro marinade, grilled to perfection, and then dipped into a spicy cilantro lime dipping sauce.
These grilled Agave Cilantro Shrimp Skewers are one of the first things to hit the grill when grilling season begins! At this point, you know how much my family loves shrimps and these shrimp kabobs are a favorite! You can make them as appetizers or simply serve them as dinner, either way, they will be a hit!

- Large Shrimp: Peeled and deveined with tails left on.
- Canola Oil
- Homemade Marinade: Soy sauce, agave syrup, cilantro, black pepper, garlic powder.
- Homemade Dipping Sauce: Water, agave, lime juice, orange juice, cayenne pepper, garlic, salt, fresh cilantro.
How to make these Shrimp Skewers
- Marinade the shrimp – Whisk together your marinade ingredients. Add the shrimp and marinate in the refrigerator for 15 to mins.
- Skewer the shrimp – Add shrimp to skewers, approximately 4-6 shrimp per skewer.
- Cook – Once hot, grill shrimp skewers for approximately 5 minutes on each side. Remove from grill once pink and opaque.
- Make your dipping sauce – whisk together your dipping sauce ingredients.
- Serve and enjoy!

Shrimp will cook super quick! It’s imperative to watch your shrimp and make sure they don’t overcook. Shrimp typically take about 3-5 mins per side on the grill. You’ll can tell when the shrimp are done because they’ll turn pink and opaque. You want your shrimp to be closer to a ‘C’ shape than an ‘O’ shape.
What’s the best shrimp to use?
Go for the largest shrimp you can find! Shrimp are classed based on their size count, or the number of shrimp you get per pound, you’ll see it on the packet or ask the fishmonger. Jumbo size shrimp, which are 16-20 per pound work great. You can by all means go smaller the recipe will still be awesome!

There are many different ways you can serve these delicious grilled shrimp kabobs. Once they are grilled you can serve them as an appetizer for people to dip into the spicy sauce. If you want to serve it as a dinner the shrimp can be served on top of a bed of mixed greens and then topped with the spicy dipping sauce. Another option is to serve the grilled shrimp skewers with rice and veggies for a full meal the whole family can enjoy!

Agave Cilantro Shrimp Skewers
Ingredients
- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails left on
- 1 tbsp canola oil
MARINADE
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp agave syrup
- 3 Tbsp cilantro, chopped
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
DIPPING SAUCE
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 Tbsp agave
- 3 Tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1 Tbsp fresh orange juice
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 Tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together marinade ingredients. Add shrimp and marinate in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Place skewers in a shallow baking dish filled with cold water. Soak for 15 minutes.
- Add shrimp to skewers, approximately 4-6 shrimp per skewer.
- Heat grill or grill pan over high heat. Once hot, grill shrimp skewers for approximately 5 minutes on each side. Remove from grill once pink and opaque. Add to serving platter and sprinkle with chopped cilantro.
