Made with boneless turkey breast and a creamy spinach and olive filling, this Stuffed Turkey Roll is a flavorful main dish that’s perfect for smaller gatherings. It’s a great alternative to roasting a whole turkey when you don’t need as many servings.

Also known as a turkey roulade, a stuffed turkey roll is made with boneless turkey breast wrapped around a savory filling.

It’s easy enough for a family dinner but also works well when you have guests over. Leftovers reheat well too, which makes them convenient for meal prep, lunches, or dinner the next day.

Why This Recipe Is Worth Making

  • Great for smaller gatherings. You still get a festive turkey dinner without having to cook a whole turkey.
  • Make it ahead. Prep the turkey and filling up to a day ahead to save time when you’re ready to cook.
  • Easy to serve. The turkey is rolled into one neat roast, then sliced into individual portions for serving.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Turkey breast with cream cheese, spinach, olives, herbs, butter, and seasonings.
  • Turkey breast: Use a boneless, skin-on turkey breast for this recipe.
  • Cream cheese: This gives the filling a creamy texture and tangy flavor.
  • Filling: Chopped spinach and sliced kalamata olives add color and savory flavor.
  • Filling spices: Minced garlic, dried rosemary, dried thyme, salt, and pepper add flavor to the filling.
  • Turkey seasoning: Melted butter, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper season the turkey. Unsalted butter works best since the seasoning already has salt and helps retain moisture.

Stuffed Turkey Roll Variations

Change the cheese. Swap the cream cheese for goat cheese, ricotta, or feta for a different flavor and texture.

Try chicken instead. You can use a large boneless chicken breast instead of turkey for a smaller portion. Adjust the cooking time as needed.

Sauce options: Serve the turkey roll with turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, or a simple pan gravy for extra flavor.

Try a different filling: Add chopped sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, or dried cranberries to change the flavor of the filling.

Tips for the Best Results

  • Pound the turkey evenly. Keep the turkey breast at an even thickness for consistent cooking and easier rolling.
  • Don’t overfill the turkey. Too much filling can spill out and make the turkey difficult to roll and secure.
  • Use a meat thermometer. Check the thickest part of the turkey and make sure it reaches 165°F before serving.
  • Let it rest before slicing. Rest the turkey for 10 minutes to help keep the juices in the meat and each slice moist.

Alternative Cooking Methods

Instant Pot Stuffed Turkey Roll: Use the Sauté function to sear the turkey roll, then pressure cook on high for 20–25 minutes. Use a manual release and check that the turkey reaches 165°F internally.

Slow Cooker Stuffed Turkey Roll: Place the stuffed turkey roll in the slow cooker with ½ cup broth. Cook on low for 4–5 hours, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Air Fryer Turkey Roll: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Cook the turkey roll for about 40 minutes and flip halfway through. Check that the internal temperature reaches 165°F before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What cut of turkey is best for a turkey roll?

Boneless turkey breast works best because it can be butterflied and flattened to an even thickness. Avoid deli turkey breast, since the thin, precooked slices aren’t suitable for this recipe.

Can I use stuffing mix in a stuffed turkey roll?

Yes. You can use prepared stuffing mix instead of the cream cheese, spinach, and olive filling. Turkey-flavored or cornbread stuffing mix both work well. Avoid overfilling the turkey roll to keep it easy to roll and secure.

How do I know when the turkey roll is done?

Check the thickest part with a meat thermometer. The internal temperature should reach 165°F before serving.

Can I use turkey breast without the skin?

Yes. A skinless boneless turkey breast will work, but the skin helps protect the turkey from drying out and adds flavor as it roasts.

Storing and Reheating

Store leftover Stuffed Turkey Roll in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

For longer storage, wrap the uncooked turkey roll tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before roasting.

Reheat the turkey roll in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 10 minutes, or microwave individual slices in 30-second increments until heated through.
