Recipe Summary

  • It’s flavorful. The savory spinach and salty olives are a great compliment to the sweet turkey meat.
  • Moist and juicy – Rolling the turkey breast helps lock in moisture, preventing it from drying out.
  • Perfect for small gatherings – If you don’t need a whole turkey, this is an excellent alternative with all the flavors of a traditional roast.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients needed to make stuffed turkey roll.
  • Turkey breast: Use a boneless, skin-on turkey breast for this recipe.
  • Cream cheese: Cream cheese makes a great tangy base for the filling.
  • Filling: Chopped spinach and sliced kalamata olives give the filling a great color and taste.
  • Filling spices: Minced garlic, dried rosemary, dried thyme, salt, and pepper get added to the filling to season it from the inside.
  • Outer seasoning: The outside of the stuffed turkey roll gets seasoned with melted butter, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Ingredient Substitutions

Filling: Switch up the filling ingredients by adding sun-dried tomatoes, dried cranberries and feta for a more Mediterranean twist.

Meat: For smaller, individual portions, you could use a boneless chicken breast. Adjust the cooking time accordingly.

Spice level: For extra heat, add smoked paprika to the outer seasoning and red pepper flakes to the filling.

How To Make Stuffed Turkey Roll

A turkey breast is pounded to an even thickness with a meat mallet.

Step 1: Butterfly the turkey breast. Pat it dry with paper towels, slice it horizontally and pound it to an even thickness.

A spoon rests on the side of a plate filled with the cheese and olive stuffing mixture.

Step 2: Prepare the stuffing. In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, olives, spinach, garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper.

Stuffing mixture is spread on a pounded out boneless turkey breast on a cutting board.

Step 4: Add stuffing and roll the turkey. Spread the filling over the turkey breast and roll it tightly from one end to the other.

Step 6: Tie and roast. Secure the roll with kitchen twine, place it on the baking tray and bake for 30-35 minutes.  Broil for the last 2-3 minutes.

Step 7: Rest and serve. Allow the turkey to rest for 10 minutes before removing the twine, slicing, and serving warm.

Tips To Make This Recipe

  • Pound the Turkey Evenly: Flattening the turkey helps with even cooking and makes rolling easier.
  • Don’t Overfill the Roll: Too much stuffing can make it difficult to roll and cause it to burst open while cooking.
  • Secure with Twine: Kitchen twine helps keep the roll intact while roasting.
  • Use a Meat Thermometer: Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F to avoid undercooked turkey.
  • Let It Rest Before Slicing: This keeps the juices from running out, keeping the turkey moist.

What to Serve with Stuffed Turkey Roll

This Stuffed Turkey Roll will pair well with a side of Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Cheesy Green Beans. If you want something a little lighter, serve it with a Greek Chickpea Salad and parmesan crackers. If you’re leaning into holiday flavors, serve with this Sweet Potato Quinoa Salad and or Maple Walnut Baked Sweet Potatoes.

Storing and Reheating

Storing: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

To reheat: Reheat the roll in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 10 minutes, or microwave slices in 30-second increments until heated through.

Freezing: You can freeze the uncooked roll by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. Thaw in the fridge overnight before roasting.

Alternative Cooking Methods

Instant Pot: Sear the rolled turkey using the SAUTE function, then pressure cook on high for 20-25 minutes, using a manual release.

Slow Cooker Stuffed Turkey Roll: Place the stuffed turkey roll in a slow cooker, add ½ cup broth, and cook on low for 4–5 hours until it reaches 165°F.

Air Fryer Turkey Roll: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F and cook for about 40 minutes, flipping halfway, until fully cooked.

Common Questions

Can I make stuffed Turkey Rolls ahead of time?

You can prepare the filling and prep the turkey up to 24 hours in advance.  Assemble and bake just before serving or prepare the entire dish and reheat in the oven until warmed through.

How do I keep the turkey moist?

Basting with butter or broth while roasting helps keep the turkey moist. Covering with foil for the first half of the cooking time also helps prevent dryness. Also avoid overcooking. Use a meat thermometer and remove from the oven when it reaches the correct temperature.

Can I make this recipe with chicken instead of turkey?

Yes, you can substitute a large boneless chicken breast for the turkey. Just adjust the cooking time as chicken breasts may cook slightly faster.

What can I used instead of twine?

If you don’t have twine, use toothpicks to secure the roll or place it seam-side down in the pan.
