Frequently Asked Questions

What is lo mein?

Lo mein is an Asian dish made with boiled or steamed noodles, vegetables, protein and a savory, slightly sweet sauce. It is similar to chow mein except that chow mein is typically made with fried noodles.

Can I use frozen shrimp?

Frozen raw shrimp is easy to keep on hand. If you use frozen shrimp for this easy lo mein, you will want to thaw it completely before cooking. Shrimp should be thawed overnight in the fridge. You can also soak it in ice water for 20 minutes or until the shrimp has thawed.

Where do I find lo mein noodles?

Lo mein noodles are easy to find in the Asian sections of most grocery stores and Asian markets. If you cannot find authentic lo mein noodles, you can substitute them with rice noodles, ramen, vermicelli, or spaghetti.

How do I store and reheat easy shrimp lo mein?

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave or in a skillet on the stove. You can also enjoy the leftovers cold.

Can I freeze shrimp noodles?

We don’t recommend freezing leftover shrimp lo mein. The shrimp can become rubbery, and the noodles become mushy. Additionally, some vegetables don’t stand up well to freezing.

What to serve with shrimp lo mein?

Shrimp lo mein is a complete meal. If you wish to add some sides or appetizers, try my Roasted Garlic Butter Mushrooms, Shrimp Sushi Stack, or Sticky Sesame Cauliflower Bites.
