Parmesan cheese chips are a delicious snack that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere. They are made from high-quality, freshly grated parmesan cheese and baked to perfection, resulting in a crispy and satisfying crunch. These parmesan chips are gluten free, keto friendly, low carb and high in protein. Jalapeno cheese crisps are a customizable snack that is both tasty and satisfying. They can be enjoyed on their own or paired with your favorite dip or spread.

Why You’ll Love Low Carb Cheese Chips

  • Requires only one ingredient. All you need is parmesan cheese.
  • It’s got great flavor. Parmesan is nutty, salty and has a high level of umami.
  • It’s customizable. Top with jalapenos, herbs and spices, pepperoni and more to customize these chips.

Parmesan Crisps Ingredients

Ingredients needed for homemade parmesan chips.
  • Cheese: We used parmesan cheese, but you can make these with any kind of cheese
  • Toppings: Add optional toppings such as Everything But the Bagel Seasoning or sliced Jalapenos. You can also add sliced pepperoni or any of your favorite herbs and spices.

How To Make Parmesan Chips

  • Prepare the equipment. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking tray with non-stick parchment paper.
Before baking cheese crisps.
  • Arrange the cheese. Make piles of parmesan cheese (⅛ cup) spaced about 3 inches apart.
  • Add the Toppings. Top with optional toppings.
  • Bake the crisps. Bake for 6-8 minutes or until the edges turn brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before touching or transferring the chips.

Tips To Make Crispy Cheese Chips

  • Use high-quality parmesan cheese.
  • Preheat the oven.
  • Use a baking sheet lined with non-stick parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for the best results.
  • Do not use pre-shredded parmesan cheese; only freshly grated.
  • Gently flatten the mounds of cheese so they melt evenly.
  • Leave space between the mounds of cheese, as they will spread some as they melt.
  • You can adjust the sizing of the chips according to preference and flavor them as you wish.
  • Watch closely so they don’t burn. Cooking times can vary based on the thickness of your shred and your oven.
  • Allow the chips to cool before removing them from the baking sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use pre-grated parmesan cheese?

Pre-grated cheeses often contain an anti-caking agent that prevents the cheese from sticking together. This can prohibit proper melting, so freshly grated cheese is always preferred.

How can I add flavor to these chips?

Before baking, top the shredded cheese with chopped herbs (fresh or dried), seasoning blend, garlic powder, paprika, pepper and more. You can also top them with sliced jalapenos or slices of pepperoni.

Can I make these with other kinds of cheese?

Parmesan cheese is less oily than other cheese, so the chips are not typically very greasy. You can use different cheeses, but the cooking times may vary, and oily cheese may make for greasy chips.

How do I store parmesan cheese chips?

To store parmesan crisps, cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. Store at room temperature and consume within 2-3 days. These chips lose crispness as they absorb moisture, so they are best enjoyed shortly after preparation.

Can I freeze Parmesan crisps?

While these can be frozen, it’s not recommended because freezing can alter their texture. These chips are easy to make, so making them fresh and only making what you can consume in a day or two is advised.

What to serve with parmesan chips?

Parmesan chips are a delightful snack on their own. You can also use them as a topping for Creamy Homemade Tomato Soup, Homemade Vegetable Soup or Easy Lasagna Soup. Add them to Autumn Chopped Chicken Salad or Grilled Chicken Strawberry Salad for extra crunch and flavor.
