  • It’s so easy to make. You can whip up a batch in a couple of minutes and have them ready on the grill ASAP. Even better, you can make them ahead of time if you want to spend your morning before your BBQ relaxing.
  • It’s a kid-friendly recipe. What kid doesn’t want a huge burger for dinner? Plus they can customize it to how they like it so they’ll love it even more! Want a cheeseburger? Place a slice of cheese on top for them.

What You’ll Need

  • Ground beef: I like using 90/10 ground beef for the juiciest burgers.
  • Onion: you’ll have to grate it then drain excess liquid with a towel or sieve.
  • Ketchup: a little goes a long way.
  • Yellow mustard: you can swap with Dijon mustard if you’d like.
  • BBQ sauce: use your favorite one!
  • Seasoning: you’ll need paprika, black pepper, and salt.
  • Breadcrumbs: to help bind everything together and keep the burger juicy.
  • Burger buns: make your own burger buns or buy your favorite!

Tips and Notes

  • Don’t over mix or you’ll end up with dense burgers. Use your hands to mix the ingredients for the best results.
  • When grilling the burgers, don’t press down on them! It’ll squish out the juices.
  • Avoid using beef that is too lean as you need the fat in the meat to make juicy flavorful burgers.
  • Feel free to use a grill pan on the stovetop if you prefer.
  • You want to shape the hamburger patties to be slightly larger than the buns you buy as they’ll shrink a bit in when cooked.
  • To check for doneness, insert an instant read thermometer through the side of a burger into the center. The internal temperature should be about 145°F to 160°F.
  • Try using pretzel buns or brioche buns to change things up!

FAQs

What does adding breadcrumbs to burgers do?

Don’t skip the breadcrumbs! Breadcrumbs in the ground beef will absorb the natural juices during the cooking process and then the liquid will release that moisture back into the burger patty as it rests so you end up with juicy burgers.

How long do these last?

Homemade cooked hamburger patties will keep well tightly wrapped in plastic wrap, or in an airtight container, in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can keep the raw patties for up to 2 days in the fridge before grilling.

How do I freeze burger patties?

You can freeze cooked beef patties for up to 3 months. Be sure to wrap them tightly and place them in an airtight container. If raw, place them in a single layer on a lined sheet pan and freeze immediately. Transfer to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. Thaw in the fridge before grilling.

What can I serve with burgers?

Serve the burgers with my Crispy Air Fryer French Fries, Crispy Potato Wedges, Roasted Garlic Bread, or Mexican Street Corn. Such easy and delicious side dishes!
