- Sweet and Spicy Sauce: I like go-chu-jang sauce.
- Brown Sugar
- Lime Olive Oil
- Ginger
- Garlic
- Paprika
- Onion Powder
- Salt & Pepper
How to make these Grilled Shrimp Skewers
- Prep the shrimp. Thaw and peel the shrimp (if necessary), then pat dry with a paper towel.
- Marinade the shrimp. Mix the marinade ingredients in a bowl and coat the shrimp.
- Assemble the shrimp on the skewers, and if time permits allow them to marinate for 30 mins in the fridge.
- Grill: Cook on a pre heated grill, about 3-5 mins a side. Serve and enjoy!
Recipe notes and tips
- To save time, you can buy tail-on shrimp that are already peeled and deveined.
- Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning.
- Lightly oil the grill grates before adding the shrimp to prevent sticking.
- When marinating the shrimp I just wrap mine with foil for easy cleanup.
- Once the shrimp turn an opaque pink they are done, it won’t take long!

How long do you grill shrimp?
Shrimp will cook very quickly, it’s to watch your shrimp to make sure they don’t overcook. Shrimp usually take about 3-5 minutes per side on the grill, depending on the size of the shrimp. You’ll be know when the shrimp are done because they’ll turn pink and opaque all the way through. The shape of the shrimp should be closer to a ‘c’ than an ‘o’.
What to serve with these Grilled Shrimp Skewers?
These grilled shrimp skewers make a great appetizer or a main! If you’re having these seafood kabobs as a main you can serve with rice and veggie skewers or a fresh arugula salad.
What to add to these skewers?
Shrimp are awesome on the skewers on their own but you can totally add in some other ingredients. You can thread on some veggies if you like, also pineapple and mango add a lovely sweet counter punch to the marinaded shrimp!

Grilled Shrimp Skewers
Ingredients
- 2 lbs jumbo shrimp, peeled
- Skewers
Shrimp Marinade
- 1/4 cup sweet and spicy sauce, I used go-chu-jang sauce
- 2 tbsps brown sugar
- 1 large lime
- 2 tbsps olive oil
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp fresh garlic, minced
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 3/4 tsp black pepepr
- 3/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Thaw the shrimp. Peel if needed and pat them dry with a paper towel.
- In a sperate bowl, mix the remainder of the ingredients. Add in the shrimp and coat them well with sauce.
- Assemble the skewers and let them marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes if you have time. I just wrap mine with foil for easy cleanup.
- Preheat the grill and grill the skewers on each side for 3-5 minutes, depending on the size of your shrimp
- Transfer to a serving dish, squeeze some lime or lemon juice on top and enjoy!
