Fruits are nature’s candy, and having so many varieties in one bowl is like heaven! This easy Fruit Salad is so fresh and flavorful, and when I make it I can’t stop eating it. It has a combination of my favorite fruit and it’s super delicious. Finished with an orange and honey dressing, it’s a great make ahead healthy dessert and great for picnics and cookouts.

fruit salad served in two bowls

I serve this salad mostly after food as dessert. You can make it anytime during the year with whatever fruits you have in season. It’s very kid friendly, even for picky kids. The combination of all the beautiful colors makes it very appealing to them.

Be sure to try my other fruity desserts like my Mixed Berry Galette and Raspberry Puff Pastry Tart.

Why This Fruit Salad Is So Good!

  • Quick and easy to make: The salad and dressing comes together so quickly and easily, you just have to prepare the fruits and whisk together the dressing and it’s done!
  • Healthy: Loaded with fresh fruits, this is a great way to get vitamins and minerals into your families diet. It’s made with no added refined sugar and is a low fat dessert.
  • Make ahead: This dessert can be made a day ahead of time. It travels well too so it’s great for pot lucks and picnics.
  • Versatile: You have to decide which fruits are your most favorite. You don’t want to be picking out fruits you don’t like out of the bowl. I am very picky and I find that the combination I use work out perfectly for my family! I do love tropical fruits more than other fruits, so if they are in season, they will be in the salad.

Ingredients you will need:

You can of course use your favorite fruits, I use:

  • Apples
  • Pineapple chunks
  • Strawberries
  • Kiwi fruit
  • Blueberries
  • Grapes
  • Mangoes or peach
  • Banana

Make sure that your fruit is ripe, and if possible buy organic.

For the dressing

  • Orange juice: Use freshly squeezed for the freshest taste.
  • Honey: I use honey to add a little extra sweetness without the need to use processed sugar. To make this vegan, you can substitute the honey for maple syrup.
  • Orange blossom water: Orange blossom water adds a wonderful fragrance and flavor to the fruit salad. If you don’t have any, you can substitute this for a little grated orange zest.

How To Make This Easy Fruit Salad Recipe

Prep the fruit. Peel if necessary and wash and chop.

Add all of the chopped fruit (except the bananas) to a large bowl and stir to combine.

Whisk together the dressing ingredients, add the bananas to the bowl and pour over the dressing.

Toss to combine and serve or keep refrigerated.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  1. You can make this a day before you plan to serve it and keep it covered in the fridge. If preparing ahead, save the banana until the last to prevent discoloring. The salad is best served fresh so make as much as you need only. Leftovers can be eaten the next day.
  2. Chop the fruits into similar sized pieces. It will be easier to eat this way.
  3. Make the fruit salad your own. You can use your favorite fruits, I like to use lots of different colors so it’s interesting to eat.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any fruits you shouldn’t use?

It’s important to have sweet fruits to get the best flavors out of the salad. I do however recommend that you do not add cantaloupes or honeydew because their flavor is too strong compared to the other fruits, and it might ruin the whole flavor. You can cut some and place them on the side to add in your bowl after you serve it.

Do you need to dress the fruit salad?

The dressing will bring the best of the flavors, and is an essential part of this recipe.. You will need to fresh squeeze some oranges. Make sure the oranges are sweet enough. I also add two other ingredients to the dressing and those are honey and orange blossoms water. The flavor of the orange blossoms water is AMAZING in this easy fruit salad. It’s sold online and in many oriental grocery stores.

Should you make this ahead of time?

I like to make this dessert an hour or so before I plan to serve it, that way the flavors can really develop and meld together. I wouldn’t recommend making it more than 24 hours ahead of time as the fruits will lose their freshness.
