Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Sweet potatoes: The 5 main varieties in America are Garnet, Hannah, Japanese, Jewel and Purple Stoke. Use your favorite!
  • Spices: Garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper make an excellent savory seasoning. Cinnamon and sugar would work for a sweet twist as well.
  • Oil: Even though we are using an air fryer, coating with a smidge of oil keeps the tots from sticking and gives a nice crisp.
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese: These little sprinkles take your tots up a notch so don’t skip this part!

How To Make Sweet Potato Wedges In the Air Fryer

Step 1: Prep tools and ingredients. Preheat the Air Fryer to 380 degrees F. Gather mixing bowls. Wash and dry the potatoes with a kitchen towel.

Step 2: Slice the spuds. Cut the sweet potatoes vertically into halves, then slice each half into 4 pieces, resulting in a total of 8 slices per potato. Repeat the same with the remaining sweet potatoes.

Step 3: Toss the tots. Transfer the sliced sweet potato wedges to a medium bowl. Pour in the olive oil, add paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly coated. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the wedges and toss until well coated.

Step 4: Cook in the air fryer. Transfer the sweet potato wedges to the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 15 minutes until golden and crispy. Flip the potatoes halfway through cooking.

Step 5: Garnish and serve. Once done, garnish the sweet potato wedges with chopped parsley and serve while they’re still warm.

Cooking Tips To Make this Wholesome Sweet Potato Recipe

  • Soak the wedges in cold water for about 30 minutes before air frying. This helps remove excess starch and promotes crispiness.
  • Pat the wedges completely dry after soaking to enhance crispiness during air frying.
  • Preheat the air fryer for a few minutes to ensure a consistent cooking temperature.
  • Arrange the wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket, allowing proper air circulation for even cooking. Cook in batches if needed and do not over crowd the pan.

What to Serve with Sweet Potato Wedges

Sweet Potato Wedges make the perfect side for a big, juicy Burger or a beautifully Grilled chicken. We also love to serve it Braised Chicken Legs, BBQ Pulled Chicken Burger, Grilled Pollo Asado or any of your favorite protein. And don’t forget the dipping sauces!

Storing and Reheating

Storing: Allow potatoes to cool completely and then store in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.

To reheat: Use the air fryer to reheat your tots – 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-7 minutes or until crispy and heated through. Alternatively, reheat in the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes or until crispy and heated through.

Freezing: Let them cool completely, then flash freeze them in a single layer on a baking tray. Once frozen, transfer the wedges to a freezer-safe bag or airtight container. Reheat for about 15-20 minutes in the oven or 10-15 minutes in the air fryer, flipping halfway through. Check for crispiness and doneness.

Alternative Cooking Methods

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I prepare the sweet potato wedges in advance?

You can partially prepare the sweet potato wedges ahead of time. Cut and season them, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When ready to enjoy, simply pop them into the air fryer or oven for a quick finish.

What dipping sauces go well with sweet potato wedges?

Popular dipping sauces include garlic aioli, chipotle mayo, or a simple yogurt-based dip. Even marshmallow crème sauce is yummy! Experiment with your favorite flavors.

Is it necessary to peel the sweet potatoes?

It’s optional. Leaving the skin on adds extra fiber and a rustic touch.

Why aren’t my potato wedges crispy?

The most common reason will be that your potato wedges were too moist before seasoning. Be sure to properly dry them with a kitchen towel before seasoning them to get rid of any excess moisture. Another reason is overcrowding the pan. Make sure to spread the wedges in a single layer and avoid overcrowding.
