Salmon Sushi Bake Ingredients

  • Sushi Rice: Sushi rice, or shari, is a type of short-grain rice known for its stickiness. You can use short-grain or medium-grain rice in its place. Arborio rice can also work as an alternative.
  • Rice Vinegar: Rice vinegar is a mild and slightly sweet vinegar commonly used to season sushi rice. Alternatively, you can use white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar.
  • Salmon: Salmon is firm but tender and flavorful, a popular fish for sushi bake. You can use fresh or frozen cooked salmon filets or canned salmon. Smoked salmon can add a unique flavor.
  • Imitation Crab: Imitation crab is a seafood substitute with a mild flavor and a flaky texture and is made from white fish. You can use real crab meat, cooked shrimp, or other seafood alternatives.
  • Cream Cheese: Cream cheese adds smoothness and richness to the dish. Mascarpone cheese or creamy vegan cheese can be alternatives.
  • Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise adds creaminess and a tangy flavor to the dish. Plain Greek yogurt can be a healthier alternative.
  • Sriracha: Sriracha sauce provides a spicy and garlicky kick to the mixture. Any hot sauce or chili paste can be used as a substitute.
  • Soy Sauce: Soy sauce adds a savory and salty element to the dish. You can use low-sodium soy sauce, tamari, or coconut aminos.
  • Furikake Seasonings: The Japanese seasoning blend, Furikake, is typically made with ingredients like sesame seeds, dried fish, and seaweed. Make your own furikake-like mixture with sesame seeds, seaweed, and bonito flakes.
  • Lime Juice: Lime juice adds a tangy citrus element to the sauce. Alternatively, you can use lemon juice.
  • Avocado: Avocado provides a creamy and buttery texture. You can use cucumber, mango, or other creamy vegetables or fruits but be aware the flavor will change.
  • Scallions: Scallions (green onions) add a mild onion flavor and a pop of color. Chopped chives or red onions can be used as an alternative.
  • Nori (Seaweed): Nori sheets are used in sushi bake for an authentic touch. Skip the nori or use toasted seaweed snacks for a crunch.

Tips To Make This Recipe

  • Salmon: Opt for high-quality salmon for the best flavor and texture.
  • Season the Rice Well: Ensure the sushi rice is seasoned properly for an authentic taste.
  • Even Layering: Distribute ingredients evenly for a balanced bite in every serving.
  • Rice: Rinse the rice before boiling. This pulls out any extra starch, which can make the rice gummy. Let the rice cool before pressing it into the pan. It will stick together better this way.
  • Parings: Consider serving with pickled ginger, soy sauce, and wasabi for a more authentic sushi experience.

Storing and Reheating

Storing: If you have leftovers from your salmon sushi bake, refrigerate them and consume them within a day or two to maintain the quality.

Reheating : Reheat in an oven or microwave until warmed through.

Freezing: Salmon sushi bake is typically best enjoyed fresh and warm, and while freezing is not recommended, it can be done. Cool the dish and store it in the freezer in an airtight container for 2-3 months. Be advised, freezing may alter the texture and taste of the dish, particularly the rice and the creamy elements like cream cheese and mayonnaise.
