Fried chicken keto is crispy and golden on the outside, juicy and delicious on the inside. This low carb fried chicken with almond flour is so good you won’t even guess it’s low carb. The almond flour coating is seasoned perfectly to complement the chicken without overwhelming the flavor. This keto fried chicken is finger-licking good.

Fried chicken is a southern staple and not typically considered a healthy food. Although it should still be enjoyed in moderation, keto fried chicken with almond flour coating is the perfect answer to your cravings. This crispy low carb fried chicken is so good you’ll have difficulty convincing anyone that it qualifies as diet food.  This fried keto chicken is the perfect comfort food.

Keto Fried Chicken Ingredients

Ingredients needed for fried chicken keto.
  • Chicken: use a combination of chicken thighs and drumsticks. Leave the skin on and bone in.
  • Wet Batter: mix heavy whipping cream, an egg, apple cider vinegar and hot sauce to coat the chicken before dredging. 
  • Dredge:  almond flour and grated parmesan cheese are seasoned with paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and black pepper to create a crispy coating for the chicken. 
  • Oil: use an oil suitable for frying.
  • Chopped Parsley: to garnish the fried chicken.
  • Lemon Wedges: for serving.

How To Make Keto Fried Chicken

  • Prepare the chicken. Trim the excess fat and pat dry the chicken with a kitchen towel, and set it aside.

  • Prepare the breading stations. Combine heavy cream, egg, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce in a bowl. In another bowl, combine almond flour, parmesan cheese, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Set it aside.

  • Coat the chicken. Dip the chicken in the heavy cream mixture, coat them evenly, and then dredge the chicken in the almond flour mixture and gently press it until evenly coated. Repeat the same with the remaining chicken.

  • Rest the chicken. Place the breaded chicken in a tray and refrigerate for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the oil to deep fry the chicken.
  • Fry the chicken. Gently add the breaded chicken into the oil and deep fry on a medium flame for 3-5 minutes until the chicken is cooked and crispy and golden.
  • Garnish and serve. Once done, transfer the fried chicken to a serving platter, garnish with parsley, and serve it with ketchup and lemon wedges on the sides.

Tips To Make Keto Fried Chicken

  • Pat the chicken dry with paper towels before dredging. 
  • Use one hand for the wet ingredients and one hand for the dry ingredients. 
  • Adjust the seasonings to your taste. You can add your favorite herbs and spices, such as garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, oregano, etc. 
  • Let the breaded chicken set on a baking rack in your fridge for 10 minutes before cooking. 
  • Use crushed pork rinds for an even crunchier coating. 
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying. Cook in batches if needed. 
  • Drain the keto fried chicken on a baking rack or a plate lined with paper towels for a few minutes before serving to remove excess oil. 
  • Cook chicken to a minimum temperature of 165 degrees F when checked with a digital meat thermometer.

Can I bake this in the oven?

To bake in the oven, place the chicken pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in a 400 degree F oven. Bake for 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway or until the chicken is cooked to 165 degrees F when checked with a meat thermometer. 

How to air fry keto fried chicken?

Place the chicken in a single layer in a preheated air fryer. Cook at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Check for doneness with a meat thermometer, adjusting the cooking time as necessary. 

Can I make this dairy free?

If you prefer to make this dairy free, use almond or coconut milk instead of heavy whipping cream. You will also need to eliminate or substitute the parmesan cheese. 

How do I store and reheat Keto Fried Chicken?

Leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat the chicken pieces in the oven or an air fryer until crispy and warm. 

Can I freeze Low Carb Fried Chicken?

Keto fried chicken can be frozen for up to three months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat in the oven or an air fryer.

Ingredients
