Tips to Make The Best Overnight Oats

  • Most important thing about this recipe is to allow the oats to soak overnight for best results.
  • Old fashion rolled oats are the best for this recipe.
  • Store overnight oats in the fridge, covered for up to 3 days. However, I prefer eating them the next day.
  • Make sure to break apart any clumps in your chia pudding before transferring it to the fridge. You want the chia seeds to be able to absorb the liquid
  • If you don’t like the texture of chia seeds, you can blend the ingredients together before setting them in the fridge.
  • You can add fresh fruits if you like or nut butter like a spoon of peanut butter.
  • Use mini chocolate chips because they are much easier to chew and use semi-sweet ones because they don’t have an over powering sweet taste.
  • If you like the texture of the oats to be more loose the second day, you can add more chocolate milk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are overnight oats healthy?

Overnight oats are quite healthy! Chocolate overnight oats are rich in fiber and have a high protein content. It is also loaded with vitamins and minerals. You can reduce the sugar content or use sugar free chips to make it healthier.

What oats are best for overnight oats?

Use plain old-fashioned rolled oats, instead of quick oats and steel-cut oats. Quick oats will get too soggy when soaked with milk and steel-cut oats will not soften in time.

Do I eat these hot or cold?

It’s up to you! We like eating them straight from the fridge as it tastes amazing and is convenient (which is the point of this recipe!). However, you are welcomed to warm them up if you wish.

Is overnight oats gluten-free?

The ingredients to this chia pudding are naturally gluten-free but some chocolate chips may not be. I would double-check the bag as some processing facilities are not certified gluten-free.

How long do oats last in the fridge?

If you’re storing this in an airtight container, overnight oats without toppings can last up to a 3-5 and still taste fresh. It’s the perfect grab-and-go breakfast, especially if you’ve got busy mornings! You can add the toppings on the day of enjoying or the night before.
