How to Make The Best Apple Crumble Cake
Apple Crumb Topping
- Make the crumble topping: In a small bowl combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in the melted butter and then gently mix in the flour until crumbles start to form. Set aside
- Prepare your oven and equipment: Preheat your oven to 350F. Spray a 9×13 pan with non-stick spray and line with parchment paper.
- Mix your dry ingredients: In a large bowl combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until free of lumps.
- Mix your wet ingredients: In a medium bowl combine the melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and milk.
- Combine everything: Mix the wet and dry ingredients until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Prepare the apples: In a small bowl combine the diced apples and ground cinnamon. Spread the apples evenly over the batter.
- Add on the crumb and bake: Spread the crumble topping evenly over the apples. Place in oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs
- Cool and enjoy: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before slicing.

- Do not overmix the crumb topping. You want there to be some texture to the topping.
- Cool cake completely before slicing
- If you’d like to use a stand mixer to mix your ingredients for this apple crumb cake, be sure to not over mix your batter. Over mixing the batter will cause your cake to be tough and chewy.
- If your crumb topping is browning too fast in the oven before your cake is done baking, you can cover the top with tin foil.
