Recipe notes and tips

  • Make sure to preheat the pan. You want to cook these nice and evenly with golden edges.
  • Slice your strawberries on the thin side. This keeps the French toast together.
  • Don’t be shy on the Nutella! You want that oozy chocolate spread coming out as you cut through – treat yourself!
  • Don’t soak the bread for too long. You want the egg mix to penetrate the bread just enough without it becoming too soggy and falling apart in the pan.
  • Use the largest skillet you have and don’t overcrowd the pan.
  • No strawberries? Use banana slices!
  • Top with powdered sugar and serve with syrup if you wish.

FAQ’s

What’s the best bread to use from Nutella French Toast?

I use brioche bread instead of regular toasts. They taste so much yummier. You can find the brioche bread at bakeries or most grocery stores. I got mine from Sprouts. I like the size they come in and they are also pre-sliced into toasts.

The drier the bread, the better. A day-old brioche works fine, but 2-3 days old is even better. Dry bread ensures an evenly soaked bread while not becoming overly soggy.

What toppings can I add?

This Nutella French Toast is best served immediately. When it comes to toppings, get creative! You can sprinkle on powdered sugar or drizzle on some golden maple syrup. Go super decadent with some whipped cream top!

Also, fresh berries, chocolate chips or toasted nuts work well.

Can I make these ahead of time?

You can make this Nutella French Toast the night before and then reheat it in the oven – 375 degrees F for around 10 minutes or in a skillet. I wouldn’t reheat these in a toaster, as the filling will drip and you’ll end up with a chocolate mess!
