  • Healthier Option: Air-frying eliminates the need for excess oil, making these spring rolls lighter and lower in fat compared to traditional deep-fried versions.

Ingredients for Spring Rolls

  • Vegetable Oil: Use your favorite light, neutral-flavored oil.
  • Aromatics: Add minced garlic and ginger for flavor and aroma.
  • Bean Sprouts: You can use fresh bean sprouts or canned bean sprouts that have been drained and rinsed.
  • Cabbage: Use both red and green cabbage that has been shredded.
  • Carrots: Peel and shred carrots or look for a bag of pre-shredded cabbage and carrots to save time.
  • Mushrooms: Thinly slice mushrooms. I used white but use your favorite mushrooms.
  • Green Onion: Chopped green onion is mild in flavor and compliments the other vegetables.
  • Sugar: A small amount of sugar adds a touch of sweetness. You can eliminate the sugar if desired.
  • Seasoning: Season well with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Cornstarch: Adding a bit of cornstarch thickens the juices put off by the veggies for a nice spring roll filling.
  • Egg Roll Wrappers: Look for egg roll wrappers with refrigerated foods in the produce section.

Tips To Make Homemade Spring Rolls

  • Seal Properly: Ensure the spring rolls are tightly sealed with the cornstarch slurry to prevent them from unraveling.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheating ensures that the spring rolls cook evenly and crisp up nicely.
  • Space Them Out: Arrange the spring rolls in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each one for proper air circulation.
  • Flip halfway through cooking to ensure even browning and crispness.
  • Serve Immediately: Air fryer spring rolls are best enjoyed immediately after cooking when they are crispy.

Alternative Cooking

  • Deep-Fried Spring Rolls: If you prefer, you can deep-fry the spring rolls in hot oil until golden and crispy.
  • Oven-Baked Spring Rolls: Bake the spring rolls in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy and golden.
  • Gluten-Free Spring Rolls: Use gluten-free spring roll wrappers and tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free option.

Cooking Variations

  1. Vegetarian Spring Rolls: Omit the meat and use a combination of tofu or mushrooms for a vegetarian-friendly option.
  2. Seafood Spring Rolls: Use shrimp, crab, or a combination of seafood for a flavorful twist on traditional spring rolls.
  3. Baked Spring Rolls: If you don’t have an air fryer, bake the spring rolls in the oven until crispy and golden

Storing and Reheating

Storing: Spring rolls are best served fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Reheating: Reheat them in the air fryer for several minutes until warm and crispy.

Freezing: Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and freeze until firm. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag for long-term storage. When ready to cook, air-fry them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
