Ingredients

For naan bread

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 2 cups blanched almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg at room temperature

For garlic butter

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 teaspoon garlic grated
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro finely chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and keep it aside.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, combine mozzarella cheese and sour cream. Microwave for a minute by stirring often until the cheese is completely melted.
  • In a wide bowl combine almond flour, baking powder, egg and melted cheese mixture. Mix well until everything combines and forms a smooth dough.
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal parts and roughly flatten the dough to elongated egg shape and place it in a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake the naan for 10-12 minutes until the naan puffs up and change the oven to broil and bake for a minute until there are some brown spots on the naan.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the garlic butter by combining the melted butter, garlic and cilantro in a small bowl.
  • Once the naans are out of the oven, brush the garlic butter on top and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use almond flour rather than almond meal for a smoother, fluffier texture.
  • Freshly grated cheese will melt better and be smoother than pre-grated cheese.
  • Melt the cheese in 30-second increments, stirring after each, so it doesn’t burn.
  • Naan dough will be sticky. Work with wet hands to prevent the dough from sticking to you.
  • Line the baking tray with parchment paper or a silicone mat for easy cleanup.
  • If bubbles form on the surface of the naan as it bakes, pop them with a fork.
  • Make a larger naan flatbread and use it as a base for pizza.
